All these fucking transplants have no idea how things used to be. Goddamn, this thread was a disaster before you found it. I'm really glad a Malden local came in this thread and set this straight. Our lives were never supposed to be like this. Its been a fucking struggle my entire life and its crazy because this whole thing was done on purpose by the pharmaceutical companies and now on the back end they get money off the treatment, its pure evil. I joined the Marines to get away and was doing great but unfortunately when I got out fell back into it because everybody else was that I knew. Im 33 now and almost everyone I know has died and the couple who didnt moved away finally after years of struggle. Epidemic doesnt even begin to describe how thoroughly opiates wiped out communities. My parents had a big house in a beautiful neighborhood on a cauldesac and all that and my entire teen years were spent hooked on drugs and doing illegal things. I grew up in a tiny town outside worcester and probably over 20 ppl I grew up with have died of overdose and Im in recovery myself still today. The suburban kids of the ppl who owned those houses were all on oxy. The suburbs were actually even worse than the cities for a while. It’s cringey af, and understandable why it may raise some eyebrows now, but the people they were trying to keep out with those dress codes were white. But, EVERYONE dressed in the way referenced, during that time. The problem is, Town Line had to not only repair its image, but maintain its new image for the patrons that grew up during that time, and still lived in the city.Īlmost all the people responsible, were white kids. When the structures started to fall, the city began to change. This was very much an “on site” situation, for the groups that didn’t like each other.Įventually, people started getting locked up. Hell-Saint Anthony’s Feast at the church of the same name in Maplewood, was seeing shootings and stabbings almost every year. The police arrived en force, and it broke up just as it started-but it seemed like we were fighting every weekend I saw friends end up in comas, people get stabbed, and a machete cut someone open from sternum to navel. Trafton Park once hosted a Maplewood/Medford brawl, where around 300 people showed up. Turf wars began, with different neighborhoods and local cities forming quasi-organized gangs. 40+ people in my grad class died from ‘01-‘10, including a girl I was dating when I was ‘17. People lament the Fentanyl epidemic today, but it doesn’t hold a CANDLE to the Opioid/Heroin epidemic of the early 00’s-10’s. Drugs were an ENORMOUS problem, and they were being run out of Town Line-there were several HUGE busts connected to the property, and it was being watched 24/7 by both local and federal police. This might sound silly, but as recently as a decade ago, Malden had a real need for a gang task force. If no recent results for the same kind of inquiry exist, feel free to start a discussion!
